This is a follow-up post for yesterday's post regarding the Taranza, Sectonia, Dark Meta Knight and Dark Mind situation.

All the other star allies have varying reactions to the severe beef that Taranza and Dark Meta Knight have with each other.

Some of them try to stop the fights, but there are others that don't.

Here's a chart that sums up how everyone handles it in my hcs:

Marx is an agent of chaos, as he's always hyped to see fights break out. He thinks the Taranza vs. DMK feud is hysterical. He likes to encourage their fights, and will sometimes join to make it three-way fights for no real reason other than because he thinks it's funny. When he joins the fights, Kirby has to slap him on the face. I would say on the wrists, but Marx doesn't have wrists, so on the face it is.

Susie and Magolor wholly cheer on Taranza during his strife with DMK. He's their buddy! He has their full support. They record the fights on their phones, and it helps Taranza's self-esteem (which is usually low) when they let him know they record the fights. They also hurl insults at DMK while cheering on Taranza to mercilessly kick his butt. Kirby sometimes has to slap them on the wrists for 'making it worse'.

Meta Knight would usually help break up star ally fights, but not fights between these two. He's always been rather insecure about DMK's existence. He cringes at the fact that he's his counterpart, and is petty enough to straight up enjoy watching Taranza beat him up.

The mage sisters, like Marx, are also agents of chaos, although they don't join the fights like he does. Instead they just laugh their butts off while watching the fights occur. Zan Partizanne is also supportive of Taranza, albeit not quite at the levels that Susie and Magolor do it.

Kirby does not condone the fights in the slightest, and is always quick to try to break them up. He's always upset about his friends fighting, but this feud is especially dire as he's had to admonish Taranza for making literal kill attempts on DMK. He understands why they don't get along, but he'd still like to see the good in DMK, and tries everything that he can to keep these two separated from each other.

Daroach, Adeleine and Ribbon also don't condone the fights at all. All three of them are DMK's friends, and while they understand why Taranza has distaste for the guy, they also absolutely don't want him severely harming DMK. They still try to see the good in DMK. Daroach especially cares enough about DMK to the point he's gotten into heated arguments with Taranza for constantly trying to hurt him.

King Dedede and Bandana Waddle Dee fully assist Kirby in helping stop the fights, although it may be a little bit reluctant in Bandee's case. Bandee is not friends with either Taranza or DMK since he's generally rather distrustful of ex-villain dream friends, and so deep down he doesn't seriously care about their beef, but helps Kirby stop the fights regardless. Dedede on the other hand is in charge of star ally gatherings, and gave himself the job to break up star ally fights.

Rick, Kine, Coo and Gooey don't really want anything to do with the fights. They're not fans of drama like this. Gooey would rather just go fishing than bother trying to stop these annoying fights. The animal trio would do the same, as they'd normally help break up star ally fights but this particular beef is just too much for them to deal with.

What do you think a mirror version of Bandana Waddle Dee would be like? I'd been looking at my analysis of Shadow/Bloody Dedede a while back, and it really got me wondering...

A part of me looks back on that post and imagines that, with the mirror world's Dedede being possessed, Bandana Dee might take the combo of his loyalty and willingness to fight the king when he's being controlled by something to its natural conclusion, and basically sacrifice himself in an attempt to free him- but that's pretty angsty, and not exactly my thing.

In terms of personality, I could see him being a lot more independent- though still caring for his friends, just maybe not being as obvious about it- and more confident in himself. It's an interesting idea to me, since he's such an iconic character now, but was just a minor enemy in a Super Star minigame back when Amazing Mirror was released... but do you have any thoughts on it?

I had some thoughts on this! My first thought is, if it amplifies negative traits, there's going to be one of two ways this is going to go. It's going to amplify Bandee's feelings of inadequacy and normalcy and Bandee is going to be NOT prepared for all the gothic Castlevania horror of the Mirror World and as a result... not make it.

Maybe he dies fighting for his friends or trying to save Dedede. But you're right in that it's just a bit TOO angsty. It fridges Bandee rather than gives him a chance to shine. (Also, I already killed the Meta Knights in my Mirror Worldl HC so we can't go killing Dees willy-nilly.) And then I remembered two things: the fact that Scarfies, some of the most violent and aggressive creatures in Dream Land, are kinda EASY to beat in KatAM. So what would Waddle Dees become?

The other is The Apple Juice Song.

Bandee is a little...obsessed about growing strong, isn't he...? And being able to defeat his friends in battle...? What if THAT was the side of him that got amplified? What if, instead of taking after Shadow Kirby, Shadow Bandee took after Dark Meta Knight?

Strong, tough, unflinching. When Dark Matter Dedede is lounging around not caring about the state of Mirror Dream Land, it's Shadow Bandee who challenges every arrival to Castle Dedede to a fight before he's willing to let anyone "weak" walk through those gates?

And of course, he'd wear a red bandanna!

The au tells the story of The Star-Crossed Hero of Dreamland, Wolfbell. Who came crashing from a rift in the sky after the residents of Dreamland received a mysterious prophecy telling them the answer to their problem lies within Wolfbell. In a universe where Kirby is seemingly nowhere to be found, this amnesiac hero without a past takes his place and is thrown into a doomed destiny to defeat Nightmare and stop Nightmare Enterprises.

The au serves as a means to indirectly tell my story, as many of the themes and some of the struggles the characters face are struggles I have faced myself or are still currently facing.

For that reason, I caution younger viewers or viewers sensitive to dark or disturbing topics to tread with caution.

Rambling

You know, I would like to try and get out of my comfort. I have been rambling a lot to my friend (bless her for dealing with me) so here's me making blog, rambling about Kirby just to deal with me brain rotting about this pink puff game and its characters (mostly the RTDL Squad). I have a lot of headcanons and ideas that perhaps sharing with the community for shits and giggles is somewhat of a decent idea I suppose. Maybe it could be your entertainment who knows.

I'm focusing on speech pattern, because there's a lot of possibility on how they talk and speak, and I like trying to differentiate them in writing or just daydreaming them to pass the time

[Note: I am focusing on the main four. The others will be added soon once I've played more Kirby games.]

I'm also comparing them with the anime as it's the only media that they talked in full sentences (aside from Kirby and Bandana).

— King Dedede

(before FL) would have talk a lot and have a gruffier voice. Somewhat a little rough as it's coming from the base of the throat type of rough.

(After FL) He would have a slightly raspy voice due to him yelling and roaring a lot forcefully which strained his voice. Compared to the anime, I would see him speaking a little quieter and don't talk as much as his counterpart (to heal his voice).

He uses informal words where the g is silent despite being royalty, and have interesting combination of words that sounded strange to an outsider and yet make sense in Dreamland. (Native slangs in Dreamland, I haven't think much of an example) Despite the impolite or somewhat a little rude manner speech, his tone is upbeat which made him more friendly than menacing (despite his large figure)

He would have a slight hint of southern/texan accent and talks fast paced. I do hc that Dreamlanders have Japanese accent rather than English, not sure how to word it out.

— Bandana Waddle Dee

His voice would sounds somewhat a young teen (considering both Kirby and BWD are youngsters) so he'll sound like 13 - 15 at most? Since waddle dees have high pitch voices in FL and RTDL DX, his sentence sometimes ended up in a higher note. Bandana would stutter in his speech sometimes due to anxiety spikes or due to his tongue just stumbled (twisted?) which confused him on what he was about to say. Otherwise, he speaks fairly well. He's also silent and wouldn't say much during serious situations as he always zoned out and focused very much in battles or some serious situations that needed him to strategise.

Considering he spent a lot of time with Kirby, he adopted some of Kirby's speech mannerism with occasional hum in between to think of specific words or just occasional one liners like a joke (You know, like quoting a vine or something but it's an inside joke between the friends).

He also adopted some of Dedede's and Meta Knight's speech mannerism and accents during serious moments. It is quite subtle between the three, but if he's around the waddle dees, it's fairly obvious how different his accent and speech mannerism compared to the other waddle dees.

Bandana has slight bit of southern/texan and spanish. Though it's mostly Japanese (native accent of Dreamland)

— Kirby

Now this is mostly centering around hc of mine of both Kirby and Meta Knight

He has a bubbly voice, following the game voice clips of Kirby. which made him sounds younger than his supposed age range. Compared to his anime counterpart, he has a little deeper voice and accented.

Due to him being energetic, he tends to cut people off which he knows it's bad but he just can't help it. He tried to curb that habit from his friends reminding him or forcing himself to stop and apologized.

Kirby's speech mannerism is a little funny imo. He misused complicated words with meanings he thinks it meant even though it's actually very far off. Meta Knight and Bandana always corrected him afterwards. (He's very embarrassed). He's actually quite nice and polite. It's just that he's very blunt which made him sounded rude and kind of a 'kind' insult even though it's supposed to be a compliment.

Kirby sometimes has a stroke and just said the most confusing abomination of a stroke sentence due to his brain mouth speaking faster than his brain could process, which the others looked at him after a few moments of silence like "what".

Kirby has Halcandra accent when he first came to Popstar and from influenced by Dream Friends, he now has mixed accents (like someone who learned English as their second language and has both UK and US accent). His accents also changed according to Dream Friends, like if he's with Taranza, he has more Florarian accent, if he's with the animal friends, he has more Japanese accent. His original accent comes out around Magolor and Meta Knight. Though his original accent also is slowly disappearing after living in Popstar for so long.

— Meta Knight

Compared to his anime counterpart (JP and ENG), he has deeper voice and slight spanish and Halcandra accent but more Japanese as he was on Popstar longer than Kirby. He also has change of speech mannerism between work mode and relax mode which isn't too noticeable.

Work mode has him talk in short and straight to the point. His tone is more apathetic and curt kind of way? Not with the intention of being rude but it's a way to get others to focus on their work and responsibilities. He has a lot of complicated and bigger words because all this time he reads the dictionary (/j). When he's under pressure, Halcandrian words slipped out and he just speak in full Halcandra which others just nodded along watching him rage for just a moment. This includes curse words. Meta Knight is also silent like BWD as he's also focusing on the fight which he zoned out sometimes.

Relax mode however has him talk more than usual which his tone is a little light, his body language is a little slack as well as his expression not narrowed or angry looking (Of course, it's not obvious because of the mask but the three noticed the difference right away). He still has the habit of brooding because he's workaholic.

He's also very blunt, a trait share with Kirby because of their origins (HC!!). Meta Knight served as Kirby's translator when the little Astral had a hard time explaining what words he wanted to say. He understood the struggle of learning a new language.

Meta Knight also has a stroke like Kirby which happened very rarely nowadays but it always happened when he woke up without a caffeine (hot choco) to kick start his brain or if he has little sleep due to overwork. It also includes Halcandrian slangs which Magolor cackled like a psychopath and Kirby just nodded along as he understood half of what he said.

And that's it, if you come this far consider me being very surprised because this is a way for me to just let out my brainrot moments. Will this turn into a series? Maybe, we'll see how it goes

MY FRIEND do i have some for you. okay so i definitely think that escargoon is into bonaty (so, flora) and dedede more into fauna (look at how passionate he is about monsters dinosaurs birdwatching), i think they would like to read together about it even if it's in different ways, but that's pretty much canon. Just like how I think they like acting, either in plays or tv shows and movies.

BUT one of my favorite actual headcanons (which I share with my boyfriend) is that dedede starts to pick up cooking after being dissatisfied with kawasaki and the waddle dee's cooking (i think it's funny if escargoon can only make One dish if he can even cook in the first place), since he's already knowledgeable about the subject and finds quality important (but also good taste obviously). And *yes* escargoon gets to taste it 😇😇😇😇😇

"Fun fact about him is that he LOVES halloween. So me and him usually try to scare everyone. Me and him also have this competition to see if we can scare each other. Last Halloween i decided to sneak up behind him and just do the usual yell behind him and make him jump tactic while he was trainin' (to be honest i did't expect it to work)

"AND HOOOO BOY HE JUMPED SO HIGH I THOUGHT I SENT HIM FLYIN'. Of course he was mad at me for a bit but now every time i mention it he just chuckles at it i think he liked being scared like that to be honest"

I don’t think Bandana Dee has ever tried to kill Kirby, and Dedede and Meta Knight…do possession and brainwashing count? Funny how Bandana’s the only one who has NEVER had his mind subverted in any way. Man must have a strong will.

Well, some people (including me) hc the Waddle Dee from Crystal Shards to be Bandana pre-bandana, and he does get possessed in that game.

But even with that, it's the only time he gets possessed. So yes, in my thing, Bandana has a very strong mind.

I've been changing them a lot after seeing other people's amazing interpretations of the two (and also thanks to Forgotten Land's release jsjsd), i'll put them under the cut!

They met in Dreamland as kids: Dedede was brought there because of random portals appearing in Winter Horns due to Fecto Elfilis being "sealed" there in the Forgotten Land for a long time and started to slowly losing control of their powers, and he was adopted by the waddle dees/doos living there. While i think Meta was born there on Popstar, maybe around Nutty Noon? (i hc that puffballs are born like shooting stars, it's usually unknown when or where they'll land) and so he got to Dreamland and met Dedede because he wanted to explore the planet

After knowing each other for a while and becoming friends Meta started reading some history books getting more and more interested in them (+ stories about kings and knights hehe) and found out about all the stuff the ancients did and create + the sealing of the 4 heroes of Yore (he soon will find Galaxia thanks to that 👀) and so, he decided to explore more. Because of that he had to say goodbye to his friend with a promise that he will come back in the future

When Meta did come back with The Drip™ and a couple more scars from past battles to train himself he found Dedede being a King and all that and got to work under him for a while until the whole romk thing happened (still have to plan out how that happened in my hcs hsgf but i find it hilarious thinking that Dedede didn't know anything about that until like some time after the Halberd sank)

little bonus: Meta got to meet Sailor there in the castle's nursery, he was like the only one that could somehow manage to calm sailor down wheneve he started crying and so the Dad Instinct kicked in (since i hc he and Bandana where found around that time) and he adopted him, then he went to find a crew and started working on the Halberd a lil after he started working under Dedede

Gimme your fluffiest, angstiest, and dumbest headcanon (please :p)

omg this is something I would struggle to answer if I give it too much thought, so have some random spur-of-the-moment knee-jerk hcs:

Fluffy: The Waddle Dees adore Garlude. Occasionally they leave her small tokens outside their apartment door, such as a seashell or colourful pebble. She is thinking about knitting some woolly hats for the Dee guards for the colder season. Since her arrival, Dedede has not dared to yell at them in front of her for fear of another chewing out.

Angsty: Jecra suffers from a huge amount of guilt over the time it took to get MK back when Nightmare captured him, it causes tension between the Trio all the way up to when they were eventually separated in the show. Despite Jecra's guilt, MK doesn't hold any blame for anyone about what happened to him except himself. Truthfully, MK didn't think anyone would go through the effort to help him at all.

Dumb: There's a folklore tale in Cappy town that says a spirit on the borders of the town has been known to guide lost young children back to their parents before they reach the dangers outside of the Kingdom. The spirit has been known to hum softly to guide them back to familiar trails, but has never been seen directly. Most parents think it's silly superstition, even so, no child has remained missing for several years by the time Kirby lands on Popstar.

Also Dumb - Dragato hates Kiwi fruits. Falspar has a game where he tries to hide one on Dragato's ship just before they leave base, so Dragato will randomly stumble upon it mid mission.

Hey Dess! Are you officially back? I came up with a list of weird questions while you were out to meditate on while you rest your eyes! Some rotisserie chicken to go, if you will. First question: What are your opinions of Lololo and Lalala? Do you think they have any relation to Lolo and Lala from HAL's Eggerland series? Their offspring, alternate universe counterparts, reincarnations, whatever that thing in the anime was, etc.? Rest well dude 😘

In a matter of speaking! (Dess says, weeks later.) And weird questions are totally acceptable, as long as they're more like this! Cause it's a pleasant surprise to be asked about Lololo and Lalala!

Gosh, did you know, the first HAL game I ever played was "Adventures of Lolo" on the NES! I...couldn't beat it. I was too young to work out the puzzles. I loved how waddle-y Lolo was!!

So, for those not in the know, in Lolo's own series, he's... well...

:looks up the Eggerland series, since Dess had only played "Adventures of Lolo":

...Uh, wow, there were a couple of these, weren't there?! Huh, Lolo was a musician? And Lala was a dancer?! (Reminds me of my Marx and Magolor hcs... Oh no! Perfomance couple, my love...!)

Anyway, Lolo has a love interest named Lala who he rescues and marries and he becomes King Lolo and the two eventually have a kid named Lulu who is just like them but yellow!

In the anime, there are similar looking characters named Fololo and Falalala (although the "fo" was added to the English dub for.... uh, I have no idea why! ^^) who are, ahem... :checks cue cards: ...two halves of the same Nightmare Enterprises monster that were split in two as part of a money-making scheme and to hide from King Dedede that they were a super weak monster. They were somehow kicked out and taken in by the good guys after that?

As for Lololo and Lalala in game... ARE they from Eggerland?

I guess "from Eggerland" depends. To me, they've left their mark as 100% "official" Kirby characters. HAL Labs has included a number of cameo characters before, most notably in Dream Land 3 which not only had Chao from Yuyuki appearing in DL2 (who was turned into the "girl" Gooey in the English version) but bounty hunter Samus Aran!

For those who have any faith in the accuracy of the Kirby Encyclopedia, I want to note that Chao, Samus, and the others were noted to NOT be "true" Kirby characters. (Sorry, Escargoon fans, as the same was said of him and his appearance in Mass Attack...)

But not Lololo and Lalala! They seem to be their own characters, as distinct from their anime selves as anime Dedede, anime Meta Knight, and anime Kirby are from THEIR game selves.

(Which is probably good because that is seriously a weird origin story! There's something to be said about the delightfully gender-bending and even genderfluid-positive (!) idea that there is a fully capable masc and femme side to every person, able to live on independently - although HOW independent is arguable because Fololo and Falala never seem to want to be apart - but the fact that tacking a bow onto the girl side was the only way they could depict this was a little cheesy. I know, I know. Kid's comedy show ^^)

Another thing is that, apparently (?) before their origin as a single being is known, they are treated as siblings in the anime? (And yet, their episode is called "The Melody of Love." That's not...uh...)

While at some point (fandom wiki says in the promotional flyer for Twinkle Popo) they were called "a married couple!" I think I personally tended to see them as "together" rather than siblings and I can only assume that impression came from Adventures of Lolo since there was no way I could have seen the Twinkle Popo flyer.

That said, they're NOT the same Lolo and Lala (to me) because they're not cameo characters. And the names... Lolo and Lala's kid was Lulu but it's not weird for the next generation (or several generations down) to be named after grandparents or other family members back in the tree. But for them to both be named after one lends credence to "maybe they're siblings after all?"

....I think I just think of them as "Lololo and Lalala." I'm probably not going to ever draw ship art of them, so does it matter how they're related? To me, they're just together. From my first days with Kirby's Dream Land, once I got over the initial pleasant surprise of "Oh my gosh, It's Lolo and Lala from Adventures of Lolo!!" (Tiny Dess, they are LoloLO and LalaLA. Get it right!) they quickly grew to be like any resident of Dream Land to me! A familiar, comforting presence!

Well, okay, the whole "Castle Lolo" thing makes me see them as Dream Land / Popstarian nobility of a sort! Maybe not on the level of royalty, like his hammer-wielding majesty, although they DID side with him in the initial food-stealing incident! (They weren't chosen to protect a piece of the Star Rod, which is very interesting. Maybe the anime was onto something with them being "too weak?")

Either way, I'd say they're pretty laid back nobles, letting everyone use their castle for fights! Maybe it's one of those things where they open it up every now and then for parties and games?!

In short, while I have no answers, I like them well enough and I'm always happy to see a reappearance of them! And maybe next time they appear, HAL will let us know whether they're a pair or pairing!

(Although this is the same studio responsible for keeping the Ado / Adeleine debate going so probably not! ^_- )

Hey, just wanted to say first that I absolutely adore your Susie and Meta friendship HCs! I like how they actually can hear each others ideas and learn to be more friendly over time, and it's adorable how Susie apologises with and Ice Cream machine.

Oh boy i have a mountain of dedede hcs, i'll try not to ramble too much: -dedede has fangs! it's a recent hc -the feathers on dedede's face can change colors slightly, darkened feathers usually means he's stressed out (also a recent hc) -my main pairing with him is metaknight, but i also have Bonkers and him are exes. the secret ship that i never told anyone about is dedede/luigi -i don't remember exactly when but i have horns on dededes' crown specifically to symbolize Post-Masked Dedede character growth, thou i know i've accidentally drawn it on when i mean to portray otherwise whoops. -i've already rambled about him n mk meeting as kids but i have baby dedede as brown with hints of light blue, he sheds his baby feathers and we see the bright blue of adult feathers -dedede grew up alone on dreamland until he met a pack of waddle dees -dedede can channel magic, with lightning being a stronger form of his fire magic. -he's an engineer!! i like to think he collaborated with metaknight when either building or repairing the halberd! -it was kirbys idea to pick dedede's birthday as his own, dedede took it as a challenge but i think it's incredibly sweet -dedede calls them "destined rivals" but kirby will happily chirp "we are destined friends" they were always meant to be friends ur honor...

times like this where i realize how weird my kirby hc voices are like i’m gonna just list them off and hope nobody judges me too hard now:

*Kirby’s changes between his voice in the games and his voice in the Kirby Drama CD (i tend to read him more with the latter tho ‘cus he actually speaks full sentences in that)

*Dedede’s has been shifting between his Smash Bros voice (though kinda a fusion between his Smash voice and Kumazaki’s Dedede voice from the games tbh) and Harrybook’s Dedede voice from Kirby’s Return to Dream Land the movie (yup. British Dedede)

*Meta Knight is his Smash Bros voice though I also keep accidentally reading him like some version of the Shredder from TMNT

*Adeleine has a country accent.

*Ribbon is from that one parody of snapcube’s “i’ve come to make an announcement” (the ribbon parody where it’s ribbon ranting about dark matter pissing on ripple star)

*i read all waddle dees with basically the waddle dee voice from peatea 64′s kirby in a nutshell videos (yes i know that the nightmare in dream land video has the r slur in it. i don’t like it either, but it’s old so i’m giving the benefit of the doubt-)

*speaking of, i read daroach with his voice from the squeak squad in a nutshell video too. well, i switch between that and some kind of feminine voice with i THINK a russian accent? for some reason every voice i read daroach with is feminine though-

Feel free to ignore this if this isn’t the place to ask (I’m new to the fandom side of Kirby) but all this proshipping discourse got me concerned with like… who actually is an adult in the Kirby fandom? I see so many headcanons, but I don’t know where the line is drawn on who is definitively an adult and who isn’t (maybe I’m missing something)? Just King Dedede and maybe Meta Knight since they both have jobs??

That's... a good question wow yeah

Unfortunately since a lot of common Kirby lore is vague or poorly translated it's difficult to draw the line, since most is inferred or just popular in the fandom. Here's what I can tell you...

Most character ages are implied by how they act (or explicitly said in things like the anime or manga). If they're more mature, they run an organization, they take care of themselves independently, they have a job, etc they're most likely an adult. For example, we can easily say Meta Knight, King Dedede, Daroach, Pres Haltmann, Susie, and Magolor are adults.

Characters who are more innocent, small, and child-like are most likely younger like Kirby (who's a child in the anime), Gooey, Adeleine (definitely a child), Prince Fluff, and Elfilin (I guess you could argue Elfilin is an adult...? but idk he seems young to me).

Of course you bring up a good question when it comes to deciding how that works... some characters like Marx and Bandana Waddle Dee have arguable ages. Most people say Marx is obviously an adult based on how he acts in the games and the fact that he manipulates Kirby but some Kirby media (books mostly) seem to imply they're similar ages (which I'm less sure about but you'll see it in the fandom). Bandee too is very child-like and most of us agree Bandee is a kid, but they're also mature enough it could be argued they're an adult by some...? You really have to trust your gut on it.

Then again I've seen headcanons for the Meta Knights being older adults and some for them being closer to Meta Knight's adopted teens, you're going to see a lot of interpretations where neither side is made with bad intent.

Intent is the main word here as well, some people hc that Sailor Waddle Dee and Bandana Waddle Dee are siblings and some people hc that they're dating, both (for the most part) of these sides don't intersect. What I mean is most people only think one OR the other, definitely don't agree with siblings dating, but respectfully choose to have a different hc.

If you have questions about specific characters and you're comfortable asking or dm-ing I can definitely tell you what I've seen most people consider their ages and/or relation as. Some characters have a large variety of fandom interpretations while others have very specific (or just outright canon) ones.

Uhhhhhh tldr, most of it is difficult to discern but trust your gut. If they seem like an adult, they're probably an adult. If they seem like a kid, chances are they're a kid. Fandoms will have a lot of lore and opinions and sometimes you'll just have to learn a little before you know what to trust.

So, I'm considering a Role Reversal AU where Haltmann Robotics was the villain of the anime, not Nightmare Enterprises.. The setup is the same (Monster of the week ordered by Dedede), but the backstory is changed to accommodate the change. (Likewise, Nightmare Enterprises would take Haltmann's place and replace Planet Robobot.) How do you think things would change?

HC of the Day: sent in by this wonderful anon! Thanks for asking! This is actually a really cool idea, and though I’ve never thought much about switching the antagonists like this, it’s very interesting! As for changes though, let’s tackle the anime first because I feel like that one will have the most prominent changes.

Haltmann would, of course, send mostly robots like (correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t have a 3DS and thus have never played Robobot) Dubior and Masher. As a company that strictly uses mostly robotic parts and produces robots to mechanize planets, Haltmann would make sure that only robots are sent to Dedede- at a price, of course. His name is literally Max Profitt Haltmann, so of course, he’d want to make a lot of money. Dedede, on the other hand, is still the lazy lunk that refuses to pay his bills XD When the end of the anime comes, instead of the Destrayars coming to attack Popstar, it’s that giant ship with the drills that drill into Popstar and start to mechanize it. Meta Knight is able to herd everyone into the Halberd before anyone can get mechanized, Kirby finds the Invader Armor that MK got from somewhere, and they take down Haltmann and Star Dream that way. 

Nightmare, instead of mechanizing everyone, would have a better idea that works just as well- turn everyone into his demons. He’s able to get the Waddle Dees under his control very easily, and most of the demons shown in the anime would come out as mid-bosses here. But Kirisakin and Chilidog/Wolfwrath are area bosses for sure, mainly because of the prominence they had in the anime. The NME salesman would take the place of Susie. Dedede would probably be possessed again like he is in most other games, but Nightmare sees something special in Meta Knight. Whether that be because Meta is half-demon or he’s just really strong and Nightmare likes him, Nightmare takes this chance to fully demonize Meta Knight, just like how Susie mechanized him in the original Robobot. Meta Knight, as usual, does not want to help Nightmare with his plans, so Nightmare tortures him- both physically and mentally- until Meta falls fully under his control.

Kirby shows up to the MK boss fight and automatically sees how unnatural Meta is acting. He fights him, Kirby wins. Normal boss stuff. But the next time Kirby sees Meta, Nightmare has “engineered” MK to have another set of wings- a process that was extremely painful- and Kirby is horrified to see blood still dripping from Meta’s extra wings. It would definitely explain Meta’s other wings in Smash Ultimate, and this AU provides a valid explanation! Once Kirby defeats him again, Meta Knight is in too much pain to fly off, so he stays slumped against the wall while Kirby fights the NME salesman. After that, Meta’s recovered enough to let Kirby help him to one of the Destrayar ships, and the whole shooting thing happens again. Except this time, it’s Nightmare shooting at you instead of Star Dream.

The Soul OS battle (is that what it’s called?) is replaced with a man inside a cage with the pillars of Nightmare around him. This man is Nightmare before he was corrupted with power, and he’s been trapped in the bindings of power. He represents everything that Nightmare doesn’t want to show- compassion, love, sympathy, etc. The man pleads for Kirby to destroy the pillars and let him free, knowing he’ll get destroyed in the process. Nevertheless, Kirby does so and returns Dreamland back to its regular state. 

Whoo! That was a really fun AU to explain and it’s got lots of potential! Thanks again for the ask :)
